I am going to covent garden on monday, its my first time there, any suggestions on what to do while Im there??

I am going there for the day with my boyfriend. Its kinda like sightseeing, its my first time in London. Im 17, and am British anyway, I just have never been to london before. Can anyone suggest tngs for me and my bf to do while Im there for the day. we're getting there around 9am, and leaving a about 6/7pm

It bores me in under 30 mins. (Covent garden that is.)


Think about going to 3 or 4 other nearby places too.





When I've taken friends from abroad around London I try to go to places like : the river, tower of london, tower bridge, tate modern, the eye, houses of parliament, trafalgar square, buckingham palace, hyde park, oxford street, harrods, camden market.

Reply:Covent Garden area itself is actually quite small, however you can fill in a couple of hours there if you try. The apple market (where the stalls are) is inside and worth a wonder around. Just remember to not bring out much with you other than what you need as this is the time of year for pickpockets in any city.





Henry's cafe bar is good for an afternoon glass of wine. Roadhouse opens at 5pm for american food and closes at 3am should you want to party afterwards! Maxwells does burgers very well. The Rock Garden is pretentious and too expensive. Shops to look out for are East, Karen Millen, Monsoon, the small toyshop inside the market, culpeppers.





If you get tired of the shops early then walk down to the Strand where there are some more shops and then walk down to Embankment Station and through the other side. There is a lovely walk along the Thames or river cruises from the Pier there should you want a little trip.





Of course there are always the open top tour buses running around London which are good for people to get to know where they are.
Reply:Covent Garden is pretty overrated, to be honest, and you would struggle to kill a whole day there. There's a (pricey) Christmas market on at the moment that may be worth a look.





Upstairs in the north-west corner of Covent Garden Piazza is a lovely pub called The Cove. Pop in for a pie and a pint.





Do some Christmas shopping on Neal Street.





Bear in mind just how small this part of London is - CG is so close to loads of stuff. Wander down to Trafalgar Square - it looks lovely with the tree up (walk, don't take the tube - it's less than five minutes away). Also on Trafalgar Square there's the National Gallery and National Portrait gallery. Both are free.





From there isn't about another 10-15 minute walk to Big Ben or Buckingham Palace if you fancy doing the tourist thing.





On the other (south) side of Covent Garden is Somerset House, which has a superb ice rink at the moment.

Pick up any leaflets that interest you. There are thousands of them and they are all free.
Reply:Covent garden is OK, the doc martins shop and there is a children's toy shop which are pretty cool. But if this is your first time in London, I would suggest The London Eye, the Tate Modern, Trafalgar Square, with the art galleries round and about and St Pauls, all quite an easy walk. Or if you are feeling really touristy the Bus tours, just make sure it is a well known company and buy from the driver, not cheap but very informative and most let you hop on and off all day!

Reply:I bought a necklace and bracelet for my wife in the market there two weeks ago on a Monday. There's dozens of stalls and so much reasonably priced jewellery that you'll be there for a while!
