Try the Aberdeen Steak House
Reply:If your a veggie you have to try 'Just Falafs' (actually try it if your not)

Best falafal wraps in London.

Its on the corner of the Covent Garden Piazza, towards the transport museum
Reply:Treat yourself and up the ante to 10 or 15 and go for a dim sum in chinatown - yum!!
Reply:you probably wont get anything for £5 unless you go to sandwich shops or fast food restaurants like KFC, pizza hut or McDonald's.

Some Chinese and italian restaurants have buffets that can be from £5 up so take a look around china town and you may find somewhere in your budget.
Reply:no maybe try pizza hut or McDonald's.

Has any pub got happy hour in Covent garden?

There is one on the main street - if you come out of the tube station and walk towards Covent Garden it's on te end on the right hand side, thee is a sign outside that says Happy Hour.

Otherwise try the Punch and Judy inside the main bit of Covent Garde. The pub has a nice atmosphere and you can sit outside on the benches and listen to the live band playing.

just go to a bar ( a real one) instead! and you can stay a lot longer (go to Islington and the Medicine Bar; used to be really nice, the stop is Highbury%26amp;Islington) and a fterwards you can go to the Elbow room which is just down the road!

Is Monday a good day to go to covent garden in the Summer?? we want to see all the street performers?

they are always there.

you can watch them with a beer from the balcony of the Punch and Judy. sunny days are best.

there are always performers in covent garden. it is generally quieter during the week though so you can actually see them, rather than the weekend where you just see crowds.

Depends on the competition, what prices they buy at.

You have your sources, they have theirs. Don't forget to factor in the rental of your stall.

Has anybody ate at 'Rule's covent garden London?
I think it's amazing. I work in the next street and treat myself occasionally. It's one of the oldest restaurants in London and I hope it remains for many more years.
Reply:It's awful. Cheap ingredients dressed up to look posh. Full of hicks from the sticks, too who think they're in Gordon Ramsay's.

What kind of posh english is "Has anybody ate"?

It should be "Has anybody EATEN"!

Ah, I understand now. It's Posh Spice-style posh english!

Place to drink in covent garden?

I'm meeting up with some friends tonight in convent garden, and just want to find a nice bar, not too expensive, prefeabley not too smokey and near to the tube.....does anyone have any sugestions??

Place to drink in covent garden?
there's a great place called the bunker. its not too smoky or anything but you'll struggle to find decent prices unless you just head for a normal looking pub
Reply:Now this is just me, but I don't think you should be drinkin' in a convent!
Reply:Turn right out of the tube and walk down to the market. Inside there is a couple of courtyards downstairs - might be some musicians playing too.
Reply:There used to be a bar next to Tutton's brasserie...I don't know if its still there, but it used to be pretty fun.
Reply:try looking here www.beerintheevening.com and check out the reviews. Has a lot of pubs - the Porterhouse is pretty good - large selection of beers for casually meeting up with friends...

Where can I buy coloured (novelty) contact lenses in the Covent Garden area?

Going to a Halloween Fancy Dress Party Saturday and I was thinking of getting a pair of Marilyn Manson style lenses -- http://tinyurl.com/tw52sy.

Where can I buy coloured (novelty) contact lenses in the Covent Garden area?
the gadget shop used to have them if that helps???
Reply:Argos used to sell them i think
Reply:ebay ebay ebay you can buy your neighbours kids on ebay if you want
Reply:Nope, not Ebay I am afraid, as they have a policy of not selling contact lenses on there (they come under prescription items, which are banned on there).

However, there are many websites that sell them mail-order, you could be looking at anything from £25 to £75 for a pair. They don't come cheap. Also, try in an opticians, they often sell them in there.

Anywhere i can park near oxford street/covent garden/ leicester square area (london)?

basically i wish to drive there in the evening (friday) at around 10pm for a couple of hrs and park for FREE. any advise

Thanks

Anywhere i can park near oxford street/covent garden/ leicester square area (london)?
If you only have a couple of hours, you will spend most of it sitting in traffic and looking for a parking spot. Park further out of town and use the public transport.
Reply:It may be difficult, but not totally impossible to find parking. I have never done it on a Friday night. If you are lucky, one or two of the theatres may have finished shows and people driving away and leaving spaces. There is some on-street parking around Charing Cross Police Station (Near Covent Garden) - Chandos Place, William IV Street area (Near Star on Map). But do check the signs as some areas are for residents only.
Reply:I think you'll be struggling to find any on-street parking at all at that time - that area's fully awake and happening! The best you can hope for is a meter space somewhere like Soho Square or on-street North of Oxford Street, but parking spaces are like rocking horse droppings and free of charge ones even more so.

Either grit teeth, cough up ££££ for an NCP and look cheerful, go in by bike, bus or train or be prepared for a *lot* of driving around playing hunt-the-space!
Reply:The words London and Free don't go togehther, remember its the Congestion Charge zone your talking about. If there was one free space in 5 miles at midnight I would have taken it, or one of the many other million people who live there. You will have to rely on NCP car parks, meters or public transport. Unfortunately some people pay up to £5 per hour in the evening too. I live in London and would not use the car in the evening, its a total rip-off!

Where is good to eat lunch near or at covent garden?
There's a not bad cafe down Denmark Street - you head out as if you were going to cut through onto Soho - it's where all the music shops are and not surprisingly they play good music too.

Forgotten the name (of I ever knew it) it's sort of opposite the good drum place - on the right side as you head into Soho.

Reply:Your right...Oxford Street is a sh**hole, the eastern end (from ox. circ. tube to centrepoint) is totally trashy, tacky and downmarket, but there again it's been going that way for over 20 years (speaking as someone who leaves within an hours walk of the west end)

The western end of oxford street, whilst slightly less trashy, tacky and more upmarket is slowly starting to resemble the eastern end

Now bearing in mind that we are talking about perhaps one of the world's most popular shopping area's and also the 'de facto' standard in international shopping, please explain the following

every 3rd or 4th shop is a mobile phone shop (bearing in mind that we are talking about oxford street here)

You have 2 sex shops (eastern end)

Two supermarkets (or was it 3), Whistlestop, Sainsburys and tesco's

Hole in the wall 'shop' jobs that are two to a penny

And remember that we are talking about oxford street here

At the moment i could name (which i won't as i can't be bothered to) virtually every major high street in each london borough that looks a million times less downmarket, trashy and tacky then oxford street

After all, if you went to Maria hilfer strasse (vienna) or Avenue Louise (Brussells) or Kurfursten Damm (Ku'Damm) in Berlin, i'm sure that you would'nt see sex shops, miles on miles of mobile phone shops, supermarkets, hole in the wall 'shop' jobs like you do in oxford street...Why, because these streets offer a better shopping experience and certainly not the sh***y experience that oxford street offers...not only that you're less like to get ripped of (as a tourist) in these other shopping areas, like you would do in oxford astreet (biggest rip off in the shopping world)

The best thing westminster city council can do (when they decide to stop playing with themselves and get of their fat arses) is to bulldoze the entire lenght of oxford street (except the better known department stores) and rebuild it but this time with slightly more upmarket shops/retailers...An preferably finished before 2012
Reply:Browns off Oxford St- serious cloth

How long deos it take from heathrow airport to covent garden in the tube, piccadilly line ?

30 minutes! I do that trip regularly and have never encountered the time delays described above.

How long deos it take from heathrow airport to covent garden in the tube, piccadilly line ?
Just under an hour. The Piccadilly line is usually quite reliable.
Reply:I would say about an hour, rather a bit more, but the best thing is to check the Transport for London webpage at www.tfl.gov.uk or to call them at 02072221234. They are usually quite helpful - at any time of the day (or night)!
Reply:Watch out for pickpockets on the Tube and at Covent Garden, If they spot you with luggage they will try it on...
Reply:Terminal 1 arrivals?

I'd allow about an hour and a half at the momemt - Problems on Picadilly line!

But usually about an hour!
Reply:I would say an hour tops if it's running well. I did Hyde Park Corner to Heathrow in about 40 mins and Covent Garden isn't that much further.
Reply:It too me just over an hour.............but uit would depend on how the line was working x
Reply:The following link will give you the answer you are looking for, once the names of the tube stations are typed in (Covent Garden and Heathrow; although you need to specify where in Heathrow; which I'd say would probably be Terminals 1-2-3 or Terminal 4 - Terminal 5 isn't open yet.) Terminals 1, 2 and 3 are very close to each other, terminal 4 is about 3-5 minutes extra journey time from T123 tube, not the 11 minutes that the web site says. (I can only think that the waiting time at T123 before the tube heads back into London is included in the 11 minutes.)

If you have not been to Heathrow before, there are maps of it on the same website showing where the terminals are in relation to the tube stops; not that they will be of any help, as it's impossible to orientate yourself when you are walking in an underground tunnel or above ground surrounded by large buildings. Just follow the signs!

Is there a Primark or a New Look next covent garden?

hi

i am going to london with some of my pupils next month and the girls want to know if there are these shops?

THANKS A LOT

Is there a Primark or a New Look next covent garden?
No not in Covent Garden, but oxford circus is not too far from there and they have plenty of shops, it was on the radio that Primark have opened a massive store in oxford circus. You need to go there. There are no clothes shops in covent garden compared with oxford circus/street.

Have a lovely time. x
Reply:As previously mentioned there is a new huge Primark at Marble Arch (Oxford Street) and right opposite there is a large New Look.

There aren't really any another Primark's in the centre, they tend to be more out in the suburbs of London.

How far away is covent garden from the victoria apollo theatre london?

about one mile , head for Buckingham Palace round the corner , down The Mall to Trafalgar Square ,look towards 11 o clock at St Martins Church and Covent Garden is behind that

How far away is covent garden from the victoria apollo theatre london?
15 mins by black cab
Reply:about 10-12 minutes by cab, or a two mile walk.
Reply:Now you have your answer, but for the future, you can also go tho this website... the transport for London journey planner. Then you can plan your trips from anywhere to anywhere in London. It will show you how to get there, how long it will take and if there are any problems (like construction delays) it will let you know.
Reply:According to the AA website, 2.1 miles.
Reply:a good thing which you could try is use the website london theatres.com and it gives you details of all the theatres in london plus you may even be able to get the details you are searching for too.
Reply:The number 11 bus will take you from Victoria and past the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben (not forgetting to wave or whatever to Tony) , Westminster Abbey , up Whitehall and into Trafalgar Square. It then turns into The Strand which is a minutes walk south of Covent Garden. TIming all depends on the traffic ofcourse , but at least it is a scenic route from the top of the bus.

Which days is covent garden market open?
Every day. It's basically overpriced but it looks gorgeous and is well worth a visit just to see the opera singers / musicians earning some extra money by busking there. Later on you get pop musicians and jugglers. Get a good view from the Punch and Judy pub which has a balcony. For lunch go to Chez Gerard which also has a terrace balcony. It's also worth a walk down past the tube and straight on as there are lots of little independent shops there and Neal's Yard which is lovely (look it up on your A-Z).

Rules in Maiden Lane. England's oldest restaurant - it has been there 200 years.

I eat there at least once per month. You will need to book well ahead - and if you are planning to go on a Friday / Saturday / Sunday you will need to book probbaly 2+ weeks in advance to have any chance of a good table.

http://www.rules.co.uk/restaurant/

Some of the other suggestions are good too - Loch Fynne is OK for seafood - but it is a chain so it is not that special.

I didn't think deuxieme was very good and the tables are a bit too close together.
Reply:For atmosphere try Sarastras at the back of Drury LOane. The food is sort of Greek/Turkish. The walls are painted like a theatre. The ladies ands gents have erotic paintings. There are little boxes you can get that you climb up steps to. On Sundays and Mondays there are opera singers performing from the Opera House. The guy who runs it calls himself King Richard. It's not haute cuisine, but it is fun
Reply:louch fin- fish restaurant with mouth watering dishes, including fresh oysters...

Sorry, non-touristy and Covent Garden don't go together. Go a few blocks out and you might be able to find something but you might need to look for a wine bar and not a pub. Good luck

Why would you go there to get wine. You can buy wine anywhere. If you truly want to taste the atmosphere, try the local beer and food.

According to the, from Covent Garden to London Eye, it would take approximately half an hour.

All the best for your first visit to London!

To the London Eye is only about 1 mile. It's a pretty easy walk. The hotel will have a map, or buy a street map when you're in London.

To M Tussauds is maybe 2 or 2.5 miles. Probably best to get a bus or the underground (metro).

Decent places to eat around London, maybe around Covent Garden???

Nothing to high priced, good quality food with a respectable price?

Decent places to eat around London, maybe around Covent Garden???
It has to be Papageno in Wellington Street. The food is good and reasonably priced, the wine list is good too. A bottle of beer is £3.

The decor is amazing. There are different areas of the restaurant, like theatre boxes that you can book. There are Tiffany lamps and all sorts of kitsch decorations. The toilets are decorated in a fashion I have never come across before. I am informed that the gents is similarly fashioned. Not respectable at all, do not take your granny!

I am going to covent garden on monday, its my first time there, any suggestions on what to do while Im there??

I am going there for the day with my boyfriend. Its kinda like sightseeing, its my first time in London. Im 17, and am British anyway, I just have never been to london before. Can anyone suggest tngs for me and my bf to do while Im there for the day. we're getting there around 9am, and leaving a about 6/7pm

I am going to covent garden on monday, its my first time there, any suggestions on what to do while Im there??
It bores me in under 30 mins. (Covent garden that is.)

Think about going to 3 or 4 other nearby places too.

When I've taken friends from abroad around London I try to go to places like : the river, tower of london, tower bridge, tate modern, the eye, houses of parliament, trafalgar square, buckingham palace, hyde park, oxford street, harrods, camden market.
Reply:keep your pockets zipped! :) lol
Reply:Covent Garden area itself is actually quite small, however you can fill in a couple of hours there if you try. The apple market (where the stalls are) is inside and worth a wonder around. Just remember to not bring out much with you other than what you need as this is the time of year for pickpockets in any city.

Henry's cafe bar is good for an afternoon glass of wine. Roadhouse opens at 5pm for american food and closes at 3am should you want to party afterwards! Maxwells does burgers very well. The Rock Garden is pretentious and too expensive. Shops to look out for are East, Karen Millen, Monsoon, the small toyshop inside the market, culpeppers.

If you get tired of the shops early then walk down to the Strand where there are some more shops and then walk down to Embankment Station and through the other side. There is a lovely walk along the Thames or river cruises from the Pier there should you want a little trip.

Of course there are always the open top tour buses running around London which are good for people to get to know where they are.
Reply:Covent Garden is pretty overrated, to be honest, and you would struggle to kill a whole day there. There's a (pricey) Christmas market on at the moment that may be worth a look.

Upstairs in the north-west corner of Covent Garden Piazza is a lovely pub called The Cove. Pop in for a pie and a pint.

Do some Christmas shopping on Neal Street.

Bear in mind just how small this part of London is - CG is so close to loads of stuff. Wander down to Trafalgar Square - it looks lovely with the tree up (walk, don't take the tube - it's less than five minutes away). Also on Trafalgar Square there's the National Gallery and National Portrait gallery. Both are free.

From there isn't about another 10-15 minute walk to Big Ben or Buckingham Palace if you fancy doing the tourist thing.

On the other (south) side of Covent Garden is Somerset House, which has a superb ice rink at the moment.
Reply:Go to any tourist information office in London.

Pick up any leaflets that interest you. There are thousands of them and they are all free.
Reply:Covent garden is OK, the doc martins shop and there is a children's toy shop which are pretty cool. But if this is your first time in London, I would suggest The London Eye, the Tate Modern, Trafalgar Square, with the art galleries round and about and St Pauls, all quite an easy walk. Or if you are feeling really touristy the Bus tours, just make sure it is a well known company and buy from the driver, not cheap but very informative and most let you hop on and off all day!
Reply:if you like music ,why not go to see an opera,i realise that all the other answers relate to co vent gar sen market, hope you enjoy
Reply:I bought a necklace and bracelet for my wife in the market there two weeks ago on a Monday. There's dozens of stalls and so much reasonably priced jewellery that you'll be there for a while!

Gardening Club in Covent Garden?

Does anyone know if the Gardening Club in Covent Garden is a good place for a birthday party on the weekend?

I want it to be not too expensive, with a decent sized area I can reserve, and hopefully not quite as horribly packed as most clubs are on Saturday nights in central London!!

Reply:Koba behind Oxford Street (down Rathbone Place) is good. Very Korean, they cook the food on hot plates in front of you. Good for large groups as it's a very social affair. Not the best if you want a big hearty meal though - you get to try lots of different things but not a lot of it!
Reply:Try Koba (http://www.toptable.co.uk/details.cfm/qs... It should tick all the boxes for you.

Vegetarian+caterer in the covent garden area??
Try contacting one of the restaurants listed in VegDining.com's directory of London restaurants, as more often than not, these restaurants also do catering:

I would like to know the route to walk from marble arch in London, to Covent garden, via oxford street?

There's more than one route, depending on when you turn right off Oxford St.

You could walk the entire length of Oxford St, turn right into Charing Cross Rd, left into St Giles High St, right into Shaftesbury Ave then immediately left into Neal St, which will take you past Covent Garden tube en route to Covent Garden itself.

Time: about 45 mins if you can avoid stopping along the way and depending how busy Oxford St is.

I would like to know the route to walk from marble arch in London, to Covent garden, via oxford street?
Well, at Marble Arch, walk along Oxford Street past Bond Street. When you get to the crossroad with Regent Street, go down south Regent Street (round the bendy bit) to Piccadilly Circus. From there, go up Coventry Street to Leicester Square, then through Cranbourn Street, cross the road, go up King Street and you're there! As long as you can get to Leicester Square, you'll be OK because you can ask people and there will be road signs.

Good Hotel To Stay In Near Covent Garden / Bloomsbry?

Howdy Peeps,

I'm surprising my girlfriend with a weekend break to London as she's a huge theatre fan. I want to stay round about the Covent Garden / Bloomsbury area due to its great location.

Can anyone recommend a good hotel for around £100 - £120 per night?

I'd like a modern hotel if possible.

Cheers,

Jim

Good Hotel To Stay In Near Covent Garden / Bloomsbry?
Try myhotel Bloomsbury (it's listed on Expedia); a "five-floor boutique hotel". Very modern, and effortlessly cool.
Reply:I work in Covent Garden. We often use The Strand Palace Hotel for cheaper stays. http://www.strandpalacehotel.co.uk/

It's a bit faded but great value for such a central hotel, and all you really need it for is a place to sleep. Use the cash you save on the room to get your entertainment in the local area where there are plenty of great bars and restaurants.
Reply:check on the internet u will find great hotels around london....

Where in COVENT GARDEN (LONDON) can i find men FLIP FLOPS today?

we r going there today round 3:20pm, please if you know a good place for Flip flops tell us now! thanx a lot.

Where in COVENT GARDEN (LONDON) can i find men FLIP FLOPS today?
Try Floral Street, between Covent Garden tube and Covent Garden market. Several shoe shops down there .... but they are designer once so won't be cheap.

Theres also a diving shop down there that should have some
Reply:There's a shop called "Mambo" is kinda like a surf shop. Very Popular place to shop, that is the only place logically I think that would carry flip flops this time of year. It's off 'Shelton Street' Look For Mambo you won't miss it. Plus there is alot of nice stuff. Take Care
Reply:Covent Garden "style" bar serving cocktails and a chilled out, trendy vibe.

Considered to be one of London’s original “style” or “concept” bars, despite being on the scene for a while Detroit still continues to appear fresh, funky and vibrant. It also serves up some of the best cocktails in town. Talking of which, the décor itself is a bit of a cocktail of tastes… part sci-fi, part retro, part medieval crypt, its mish-mash of styles means that most individual tastes are catered for. Dimly lit, cosy alcoves are ideal for those seeking intimacy and seclusion, while quirky, space-age booths offer a more sociable, buzzing environment. The music is chilled, with popular Vinyl Evenings offering French, deep house and funk being held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. This is a fashionable venue (with prices to match) but not painfully so. Chic rather than chichi, modern rather than modish, it offers a cool, laid back vibe that’s hard to resist.
Reply:There is a small shop to right of the garden that sells flip flops.

What is the dress code for a night at the opera at the royal opera house covent garden?

PROBABLY evening dress?

What is the dress code for a night at the opera at the royal opera house covent garden?
quite formal, ie dress and suit with tie, the opera is much different to the normal theatre production, its special, i reccommend seeing the last night at the proms!!!its brilliant!
Reply:There is no dress code.

But it is always nice to have an excuse for dressing up in your finest.
Reply:It depends on the day of the week. I've been to Monday night shows and people are in all sorts. If it is Friday or Saturday, then very smart eg black tie for men and cocktail/long dresses for women is the order of the day. Otherwise smart clothes that you feel comfortable in. If you are going in a group, it makes sense to agree among yourselves if you are going in black tie or not.
Reply:It used to be formal, but things may have changed. Ring the Opera House.
Reply:casual/smart
Reply:Formal evening attire.

Ladies in long dresses gloves and opera glasses.

Men in evening suites with bow ties.

So many people ignore the rules and go in jeans and tacky shoes. Dress codes should be adhered to.
Reply:Ive been to many opera's (so boring) but i wore a skirt with a black fur coat jacket. and my dad wore kikes and a polo shirt with a leather jacket.

Is there a Dr Martens shop in Covent Garden, London?

Many years ago I visited a huge Dr Martens shop in London. It was located in Covent Garden. Is the shop still there? If not, where can I find a large selection of Dr Martens shoes?

Is there a Dr Martens shop in Covent Garden, London?
There used to be one but I think it shut down. I bought my pair of Doc Martens at one of the Shelley's shoe shops on Oxford St. They have a pretty good selection, and there are a few shops on the whole of Oxford St. Happy shopping :)
Reply:yes its still there,

well it was there a couple of months ago because we passed it when we went to the fred perry shop =)
Reply:The large DM store in Covent Garden closed down about two years ago, because of the high shop rents there.

However, DMs are easily available in most large shoe stores all over London, and especially if you go to the Camden area you will find many shops that sell the widest choice of them.

The company also has a good website :http://drmartens.com/
Reply:Camden is full of Doc Martin and 'copy' Doc Martin shops. Take an 88 bus.
Reply:Camden and it's markets/shops IS the place without a doubt. Best underground stop is Camden Town (it's much quicker than the bus), then just follow the crowds. Be warned though, it's very busy at the weekends.
