Where to go out in central London? (Impossible question)?

I'd like to ask the impossible...

I'm going out for a curry with about 8-12 friends for my birthday and am looking for somewhere good, but not too pricey around the covent garden, leicester sq, soho area. I'm happy to book, but would NOT like to put down a deposit.

Any ideas?

Also, where could we go afterwards for drinks that would let in a group of this size but doesn't have massively loud music and maybe... maybe have somewhere to sit??? For at least a couple of us???

Any ideas?

Thanks

Was there or is there not a place called "Greens" that has oysters, steaks, chops and the lot .... and would be good for drinks ... I saw a photograph of it some time back and it looked so solid, so traditional, and so trustworthy .. it is downtown somewhere.... ...or you could go for drinks in a winebar? Is Fino's still there? Off Barkley Square?

For curry, why not just go to an Indian restaurant? That should be fun.

Sorry if this is misleading.

Salted Liquorice Craving?

I have a major craving for salted liquorice, belgian, dutch, swedish, it doesn't matter but the stronger the better. I work in Bloomsbury and walk to Charing Cross via Covent Garden does anyone know of any sweet shops/delis in this area that might have this good? (Not cybercandy I have already tried) I am really looking forward to your responses!

Salted Liquorice Craving?
Funny you should mention that , had friends over the other day and they are Dutch and they told me about that Liquorice. I would love to taste it myself. Should they go to Holland again i will ask them to bring some and send it to you:))

Reply:Ah yes "zoute drop". A required taste but once you like it there is no substitute.

Try this. It may be of help.
Reply:Salt? and liquorice? I didn't know you could get them to together.Could you not just buy some squigdy aussie stuff from Holland and Barratt and dip it in salt?

Or buy it online and keep it in your handbag. http://www.liquoriceheaven.com/default.c...

What other interesting places in london can go this weekend? those who are free of charge or has cheap fees?
Dont forget 3 Savile Row, Apple's Headquarters
Reply:National gallery, the Tate (either one), Hyde Park (because its lovely!), Natural History Museum, Birdcage Walk which has a brilliant flower market on it. Thats all I can think of, they're a few places I went on a weekend up there!
Reply:The British Library has a display of original Beatles memorabilia, such as handwritten lyrics on napkins. Also, for general history, what about the British Museum? The Victoria %26amp; Albert Museum has clothing from many eras, including the 1960's, which may interest you.

Abercrombie and fitch store LONDON? please help!?

I planning a trip to london this summer and i really want to get some clothes from abercrombie and fitch , the new london store.

I know its somewhere around mayfair and soho, but if i was on oxford street how would i get there becuase im basically only going down oxford street and maybe covent garden.

Also does the London store do mens and kids clothes?

and finally how good and often are the sales there?

please help, ill choose a best answer :)

Abercrombie and fitch store LONDON? please help!?
There's an Abercrombie and Fitch down Savile Row...

If you're on Oxford Street, find "oxford circus" (Niketown, United Colors of Benetton, underground station) and then go southwards down Regent's Street. Turn right down Conduit Street, and Savile Row is the first street on the left! V. easy to find!!
Reply:It's sooo overpriced in London! Double what the prices are in America!

It's in Saville Row, someone will probably be able to give you directions.

It does womens and mens not kids.

Yes, there's sale stuff most of the time but it's still expensive!

Hope i can help!
Reply:Ive been there and its sooo funny, at the front of the store there was this topless greasy amercian guy, they only employee people who look like models and the place looks like a night club. Be warned that the sizes are tiny, my friend is a slim size 12 and couldnt fit in a large!
Reply:Its in Saville Row - You daft thing! - Chill Out...

Btw even when theres sales - Its still expensive!

One Abercrombie and Fitch plain polo costs £35.

Sale is usually 10%.. Not much if you ask me.
Reply:Its in Saville Row

It doesn't have any sales, because its the flagship store. They do stock mens and childrens clothing in there (:

Goodluck!

Reply:You'd be able to get a bus because Oxford Street and Savile Row where Abercrombie %26amp; Fitch is are both in Westminster

If London was a blank canvas?

what 3 things that are there now would you leave in and what 3 things would you leave out.........

for me leave in; Globe theatre, Tower bridge and Covent garden

Out; Oxford st, Buckingham palace and Marble arch.

If London was a blank canvas?
leave in: Hyde park,Camden town,Leicester square

take out: Buckingham palace,Tate gallery, downing street

-Jake
Reply:Sorry, Buckingham Palace and the Mall have to stay there or the tourists wouldn't want to bother. Trafalgar Square has to stay too, intact, so there.

Hmmm. The Globe is in the wrong place so has to be picked up and moved to the other side of Southwark Bridge, to behind the FT where it belongs. The Post Office Tower has had its day - I'd sell that to someone in Arizona, and please can I remove 30 St Mary Axe? "The Gherkin?" It's absolutely bloody vile. Sorry if we don't quite agree!

Out:: The Trocadero, Madame Tussauds, Oxford Street

What is a nice, decent hotel in central London (at least 3 star) that is less than £150/night?

my friend is coming to london and she wants to be centrally located - knightsbridge, mayfair, chelsea, west end, covent garden etc. She needs a relatively inexpensive hotel - 3 star or 4 star

What is a nice, decent hotel in central London (at least 3 star) that is less than £150/night?
try one of those, they are of reasonable prices and quite central...
Reply:Jurys Inn located in Islington.

Its a 3 minute walk to Kings Cross and Angel St tube stations and cost me 40 quid a night.

VERY nice place with a NICE pub!

Reply:You have a LOT of choices. Consider B%26amp;Bs or hostels, too. Hotels in that area can be gotten for far less than 150 per night. Look on hotels.com, hostelbookers.com, etc. Do searches on the following: budget London hotel, cheap hotel London, etc.

Good luck. I've been to London, and all over England and Scotland over a dozen times. Cheers, K

Help with travel around London please?

Hi. How far is Covent Garden from the Tate Modern and which tube lines should I get? I'm looking for the quickest and easiest route. Thanks!

Help with travel around London please?
http://journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk/user/XS...
Reply:Probably the best way I can think is to go from Leicester Square tube, not far from Covent Garden and change at Embankment for the Circle and District Lines to Blackfriars.
Reply:It is probably less than 30 mins walk. Along the river and then over the Waterloo bridge by the festival hall.

But failing that I think the RV1 bus goes exactly the same way, probably in about 10 mins.
Reply:You need to take the District line from Blackfriars station (towards Ealing Broadway or Wimbledon or Richmond) or the Circle line (towards Embankment) then you can walk a short distance to Covent Garden. Journey time is roughly half and hour. FYI: www.tfl.gov.uk

Where do actors live in London?

Where do the "creative people" live in London? Actors, directors, but artists and musicians as well? I mean, if they're living at least somewhat descent. Soho? Covent garden? I would really like to know because my sis is moving to London and she's a musician and she'd like to live close to simular-minded people... please help!

Where do actors live in London?
Most musicians and actors I know could never afford to live in Soho or Covent Garden. Camden Town seems to be popular with musos. Quite a few (successful) actors live around Primrose Hill.

Want a shisa bar does the happening smoking law rule it out?

Desperately need help from London locals please?

Tomorrow I get in to Waterloo Station at noon and I have twenty to thirty minutes to walk to Covent Garden Underground; is this possible, and is it easy to find? I would take the tube but I have a phobia of being underground (don't laugh!).

Thanks.

Desperately need help from London locals please?
Yes, you can do it. But don't waste time wandering around - you'll need to stay focused and don't get side-tracked!

Ask one of the station guards which exit to use to get to Waterloo Bridge (there are several exits and if u take the wrong one, you could get lost!)

Walk across Waterloo Bridge and carry on walking straight on for a few minutes until you come to a main road called 'The Strand'.

At The Strand, turn left and walk down The Strand and then take the third turning on the right (Southampton Street).

At the end of Southampton Street turn left into Henrietta Street, Then First right into Covent Garden, right again into King Street. Then First left into James Street. And there a few yards in front of you is Covent Garden Station.

Now if you follow these directions to the book, you can not go wrong!

Good Luck and if u do divert or are not sure if you're heading in the right direction, ask someone official. Because if u ask the wrong person, with the best of intentions, they'll send u the wrong way!
Reply:You can get there in around 15 minutes, walk to the Golden Jubilee bridges (Hungerford bridge in old money) and walk up through Trafalgar Square to Covent Garden.
Reply:No it is not possible to walk it in 20-30 minutes. You will have to get a taxi. Shame you do not do the undergound as it would be very easy to go from Waterloo to Covent Garden.
Reply:Walk over Waterloo bridge, turn left into the strand, the station lays back about 200yds up on the right.
Reply:Have a look on www.tfl.gov.uk. It's a fair walk how about getting a bus?
Reply:Hi if you come out Waterloo Station go over waterloo bridge turn left on the strand then right onto southampton st very simple honest and you should take less than 15-20mins walking
Reply:It's not far to walk - about 20 minutes. Cross Waterloo Bridge then carry straight on until you come to Floral Street on your left. Covent Garden Station is in Floral Street. Or you could get a bus - that'd probably take almost the same time, but it would be dry if it's raining. There are loads of bus stops around the station and very many different buses. So you'd need to look for some kind of bus map. Or, use www.tfl.gov.uk which will give you loads of help - and maps that you can print.
Reply:Yes.... I do it most days. It's a really great walk seeing lots of sights. Simply, come out of Waterloo Station and head for the Royal festival halls..... all clearly sign posted. Walk across Hungerford foot bridge (jubilee bridges now) and once the other side of the Thames keeping walking but don't go down the steps on the other side by Embankment Tube Station..... walk through the passage way above Villiers Street passing a few market stalls usually into Charing Cross Station and exit through the other side of the public concourse..... cross the strand and walk past the old Charing Cross Police Station...... up into Covent Garden market area.... and you'll find the tube station... clearly sign posted all the way. It takes me around 18 minutes or so.
Reply:Yes, it's possible in 20 minutes, but walk fairly fast.

Look on

www.walkit.com

for detailed directions. Just enter your starting poiint as Waterloo station and end point as Covent garden underground station, and it will give you detailed directions.

It's not hard to find.

Hope this helps.
Reply:Straight over Waterloo Bridge and keep going,

You should do it easily in 20 minutes.
Reply:You can walk from Waterloo Station to Covent Garden in 15 minutes. Walk north from the station across Waterloo Bridge.

On reaching Aldwych turn left into the Strand and then any turning on the right will lead to Covent Garden.
Reply:You can do this walk in about 20 minutes. Look for the South Bank exit at Waterloo. You will see the IMAX cinema, to the left you will see Waterloo Gardens. Walk up here and cross Waterloo Bridge. Keep going straight on , the road names are Lancaster Place, then Bow Street.

Turn left into Floral Street, and you have arrived.

Look at Transport for London planner and they will give you a map too.

Best Area of Central London to Live for US Graduate Student?

young couple (23 %26amp; 24) moving to the UK. One is full time student. We are trying to figure out where we want to live. We want to stay within zone 1.

We are looking for a neighborhood that is not that too expensive though we realize that nothing is going to be cheap.

One of us is a musician and we're both fond of bars and art galleries etc, so a youngish neighborhood with lots of potential for that sort of fun would be great.

Someplace safe (or at least safe enough that you don't have to always look over your shoulder) is also a priority

we've been looking at Covent Garden, Bloomsbury etc, but places not too far but maybe a little more off the beaten path would be great!

Why do bouncers wait til you've paid your entrance, bought drinks b4 telling you to leave?

Happened to me the other night in Roadhouse, Covent Garden. Said I was too drunk when, considering I had just arrived from work, was kind of pushing it. Can't reason with these planktons........I'm not a small guy but didn't feel like deciphering their grunts so went to another venue instead which was far better, with humans on the door.

Why do bouncers wait til you've paid your entrance, bought drinks b4 telling you to leave?
WHAT has this to do with "dining out"?
Reply:I think its a power trip to them they seem to think they are the law. I swear some of them think they are police ha!
Reply:cause they are braindead c*nts!
Reply:this is why these plankton's are called bouncers. they actually are doing their job, bouncing anyone and everyone. glad u found a better spot.
Reply:they can not tell what condition you are in before you enter. if they find something about you that might cause a disturbance they will ask you to leave. it is called preventing a situation.
Reply:I think you already know the answer tbh, but you raise a VERY good point.
Reply:Yeah well, that's life innit.

Cheers man.
Reply:Because bouncers don't like ugly people...it's bad for business.

I have italian family and live in the Uk. Reply:Mum's garlicky chicken soup when I have a cold. Knocks the stuffing out of those germs and tastes good too!

Roasted veg and tomato. When doing roasted veg for a meal, make extra, and add tomato passata to the leftovers - good for rinsing out the dish to get all the juices. Slowly heat so the flavours blend, then liquidise. Best the day after, when the flavours have had a chance to develop in the fridge overnight. Also good as a pasta sauce if you let it reduce a bit.

Which market in London is the cheapest?

I want to visit the Camden, Portobello Road and Covent Garden markets. Which one would be the cheapest? Is it common to bargain or would it be considered rude? (Not that I can bargain or anything but still...)

Which market in London is the cheapest?
It depends what you want to buy...the markets specialise in different things. Camden appeals especially to the young and is good for clothes %26amp; music, Portobello Road is mixed but is mainly antiques, fruit and vegetables, and Covent Garden is a small market dealing in arts %26amp; crafts.

Prices are (almost ) always shown, and bargaining is not usual in the UK... although you won't really be considered rude if you try to haggle the price down for more expensive items, you may well be considered cheeky and could be told where to go to by the stall holder!
Reply:Covent Garden is the most expensive. Portobello road , is fun but it is hard to get a decent price. Camden Lock market, I think would e your best bet. I hope you have fun London is an amazing city.
Reply:Well Portobello Road is not really the cheapest, but you certainly can try and bargain. But also definatley try Camdem coz you will find some really cool unique things.

Where would be best for a leaving do around Chancery Lane\Bank? Somewhere a bit lively, but not too expensive?

For a work leaving do. Want somewhere that will be a bit lively on a Thursday night, but won't be too expensive. Somewhere like Bar 38 which used to be in Covent Garden.......

Where would be best for a leaving do around Chancery Lane\Bank? Somewhere a bit lively, but not too expensive?
Try Abacus near Bank station. It kicks off on a Thursday night and I think you can hire out an area for free.
Reply:The Old Mitre is small so it gets lively by default - does food early evening.
Reply:mcdonalds is a good spot and i believe they are doing a deal on the happy meals

How to get from Ilford into Central London?

Is it train then tube job? does anyone know the route and stops? Im heading for Soho / Covent Garden.

Cheers

How to get from Ilford into Central London?
you can get a train straight from ilford station to london liverpool street (16 minutes)

then from there you can get the tube:

- central line to holborn, then picadilly line to covent garden (tube will take about 15 minutes)

- or the central line straight to tottenham court road, which is near soho square (10 minutes)
Reply:Train from Ilford to Stratford

Central Line from Stratford to Tottenham Court Road

(Saves the lengthy walk between trains at Liverpool Street station and TCR is close to both Soho and Convent Garden)
Reply:take the train or take the 25 bus , okay it's the bus but it gets you straight to oxford circus, but it takes time though but from there you could walk to covent garden.

Buskers suggesting how much pay them?

I have been visiting London for 40 years. And have always enjoyed the buskers. There was a very good duo in Covent Garden last sunday night and everyone enjoyed them until they started telling people how much to put in the box 2 pounds or 5 pounds and they said don,t put change in because they dide,nt want it which was very cheeky.H.

Buskers suggesting how much pay them?
Was it 2 men dressed in yellow costumes by any chance?! I didn't put anything in, I think donating is optional and after being told what to donate i opted to keep it myself! I bought some lovely warm nuts from a cart instead.
Reply:they are sad the reason they do not want change is the fact that banks charge to convert it and they might be asked why they have it and that would lead to tax questions so they do not pay tax or stamp
Reply:That will just be part of their patter, maintaining the "cheeky chappy" persona - I'm sure they would rather 10 people put in 50p each than just one putting in £2.

Where to develop 120 films in central London?

I used to go to a lab in Covent Garden called 'Team' but it's closing down. Could anyone recommend any good labs which develops 120 film (both C-41 + E6) in central london? (preferrably near tottenham court road or oxford street)

Where to develop 120 films in central London?
Talk to a a concierge of a nearby hotel and tip them for their help.

You might want to start with a "better" hotel, these guys are pros at finding what you need and pulling rabbits out of hats when you need help.
Reply:definitely try metro in soho. its off oxford st on great marlborough st (runs parallel) off poland st. i just got a 120 developed and printed there and they were very nicely done. its pricey but worth it. probably more cost efficient to just get the negs done and then choose prints you want afterwards. anyway check them out http://www.metroimaging.co.uk/

rip it up and when they send you the reminder write an irate letter stating that there was no ticket on your car when you returned to it, even if they have records of a ticket if it werent on your car how could you know about it? i did this once here in wales and got away with it so worth a try.
Reply:Be careful about taking Celtic's advice... I did used to write in and 6 out of 10 were dropped.

The problem you will face now though is that most councils (and I am not sure whether Westminster is) arm wardens with digital cameras... so you might get a letter back with the fine doubled and a piccie to back it up... Good luck!

Does anyone know where i can get some timber pallets from???

Right I am building a stange in a house for a mega party we are organising. I have been put in charge of erecting a stage on a budget. The only thing i can think of using for the base of the stage would be wooden pallets, used for transporting large materials in building sites/markets ect. i don't know where to get them from i have tried the obvious outlets i.e. homebase and also new Covent garden market. If someone knows where i can buy or 'borrow' some of these precious objects from an invite to said party may come your way.

Does anyone know where i can get some timber pallets from???
Try your local builders yard - they usually have loads of spares.
Reply:A lot of companies that do shipping will have a pile of pallets with a "free" sign on them, either by the roadside or next to their dumpster. Ask at places like that (even motorcycle stores) because they end up paying for them to go in the trash and so would be delighted if you took them without making a mess in their lot.
Reply:Try local building sites, most builders can't wait to get rid of them because they tend to be in the way and fill up skips too quickly. If they don't have any they'll most probably save them for u.
Reply:just have a tour round your nearest industrial estate where you should be able to get some freebies, failing that try a lorry park where you can probably get some cheap
Reply:try any place that has large deliveries from lorries, if u live near docks or factories, builders often have used plywood boards that they want to get rid of have u a demolition place near u.
Reply:Try your local landfill. I have gone there routinely to obtain these pallets for the lumber. I'm sure you'll find plenty out there

good luck with your party
Reply:Check some of the businesses by you.. .My husband works at a steel processing plant where they use pallets they often just throw them away.... Check some scrap yards, grocery stores etc....

Can you get off-season North Face clothes in London?

There's a shop in Covent Garden, but I haven't been to it. Do you know if they have a sale shop or someplace where you can get their winter stuff?

Can you get off-season North Face clothes in London?
Around Southampton Street (covent garden) - there's lots of those outdoor/backpacker type shops selling North Face gear. They'll always have some kind of sale section so it might be worth just heading that way and seeing.
Reply:Try Blacks, the sports shop. They are all over the place but I do know there is one by St Pauls.

I'm going to the dominican in one month for a wedding and i want to get a spray tan as i am quite pale?

Can anyone tell me how many days prior to the holiday i should have one done. As its for a wedding i want a really good one. Could anyone recommend a good salon around covent garden / oxford st London?

Many Thanks

I'm going to the dominican in one month for a wedding and i want to get a spray tan as i am quite pale?
HI hun, if i was you iwould get it done 3 days before you go, will give it time to calm down and look Fab!!

It will look great just be carefull in and out the water, sometimes they streak!! Happend to me once, dint go to that salon again tho, and have been fine ever since

Have a nice time chick
Reply:I would go twice, once for a base tan and another for a top up tan. The first one I would go for about 4 days before and the next on the day before. I do mystic tans (spray tan booths) before I go on holiday because I dont tan. Remember to moisturise to maintain your tan for longer.

If you go too early your tan will have disappeared before you go on holiday.
Reply:Well, i am not really sure but i am from Dominican Republic and recommend u to bring some very warm cloth bc over there it is very very warm good gl!!! :)
Reply:The absolute best is the GlowFusion protein tan -- no streaks, no color all over the place, no orangey complexion, no mess. Spray on and wait. You will have a very natural tan that lasts for two weeks -- Tan Towels are a less expensive option of the same idea. check them out!!
Reply:5-7 days before should be good- in case you mess up, you'll have tons of time to fix it. Also, if you're outside you'll be able to build upon your tan and it will look even more natural.
Reply:about 1 week before the event is were you should get your tan!

Which opera houses are regarded as the world's best?

Based on my cursory knowledge, I would probably say La Scala, Covent Garden, and the Metropolitan Opera are the top three. Am I right?

Which opera houses are regarded as the world's best?
I think the bg 5 in the US are : Met, NYCO, Lyric Opera Chicago, San Franisco and Houston? LA is probably interchangeable in that group now as well as Washington Opera and Seattle as well. I think your top 3 are vertainly the most well known and they get huge stars... Still Sydney is pretty cool and you are completely forgetting the big houses in France and Germany and Austria as well... The Berlin Statsoper has to be towards the top of the pack!
Reply:royal albert hall london

Teatro Massimo, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Teatro Verdi, Teatro Regio di Parma - Teatro Verdi, Teatro Regio Torino, Teatro dell'opera di Roma, and

Arena di Verona.

I have found no top ten opera houses. But I am sure that those 3 would be in the top 10 or so.

Can anyone tell me if the UK On-Line lottery out of London is legitimate?

They were supposed to have held a drawing in Covent Garden in London, on May 6, 2007. They told me I was one of 20 winners drawn internationally.

Can anyone tell me if the UK On-Line lottery out of London is legitimate?
i don't know but they sent me an email too. i think its a scam. in the past i have heard about foreign countries running lottery scams. and in order for you to get your money, you have to pay them insurance in order for them to send it.
Reply:If you did not enter a lottery in the UK than you are probably not a winner. There are a lot of scams that prey on people thinking they just got lucky even though they did not enter any contest. I would delete the email and forget it. The scam works a couple of ways. One way is they get you to send them the bank information so they can directly deposit your winnings. (They usually clean you out.) Another one asks for some type of fee to claim your prize. (It never comes.) The other one I know about is where they send you a check to deposit and send back a bit of the money.(The check will bounce and you will be liable) There are a lot of scams out there so don't always believe what you get in your email.

Any information on Gary Cockrell dancer, actor choregrapher lives somewhere in the USA?

Lived in London Uk in the sixties and seventies. Started the Dance Centre in Covent Garden then it was turned into 'The Santuary" a health club for ladies only. Left the Uk then went to St Lucia West Indies and worked as a choregrapher; then he went back to USA. Came to London with West Side Story, which was a musical back in the 1960's and became quite famous. He is now somewhere in the USA and I would like to make contact.

Anyone been approached in London by a model scout claiming to work for Elite Model World, is this a scam?

My 15 yr old daughter was approached in Covent garden and given a card by a model scout called Cesar Perin from elite model world. I have searched all the details out on the net and although there seems to be a website, there does not seem to be any contact details. The details on the card are only those of the individual so I'm suspicious. Any one had the same card?

Anyone been approached in London by a model scout claiming to work for Elite Model World, is this a scam?
Hey, my friend got that too! don't recognise the name, but she got scouted whilst shopping in Topshop for Elite. She didn't take them up on the offer as she lives near me (200 miles away from London), but that was last weekend....hmmm maybe it was a scam?

Oh, and Elite Model 'World' sounds fishy...I've only heard of Elite Model Management.
Reply:Most likely a scam. As the person above said, Elite Model Managment is a company, world is a fake name (i've been watching WAY to much top model.) Get the name and card, google and do a background check.

Also, a real rep would have the contact details, because then you could just call the REAL company and ask. I'm thinking scam.

Edit: googled Cesar Perin. No info came up, so i'm thinking again, it's a scam.
Reply:I checked out Cesar Perin by contacting Elite Model World in Paris (part of Elite Model Agency) and the Assistant to the President of Elite Model in Paris confirmed that Cesar Perin is one of their scouts and is therefore legitimate.

Reply:Yes, it is legitimate. The guy who approached you said he was from 'Elite Model World' but that's the generic term for the whole company.

Usually it's just referred to as 'Elite' or 'Elite Model Management'. There are branches (or whatever you want to call them) all over the world in America and England etc etc

I would trust them, they seem to be quite a reputable agency. The agencies that you need to be wary of, are the ones that ask for you the girls to be at least 16 (so they don't need their parents to be there), and also ones that ask for you to pay for your portfolio shots. In particular there's an agency called 'Zebra' you should be wary of.

ANY reputable agency will never ask you directly for any money to pay for photos, the model is working for them and if they want you then they pay for the photos themselves!

Good agencies don't ask for money, or for you to be at least 16 before they sign you. They will look after their clients and make sure they have finished school etc before they work, and won't ask girls to work during term time.

If you are suspicious of this person in particular, but your daughter wants to do modelling then you could contact another agency like Premier, Ford or Select Model Management. They are all based in London and stuff.

good luck to your daughter! hope i helped x

i just realised, some of the most famous models in the world are with Elite... Jerry Hall, Georgia Jagger, Lydia Hearst, Riley Keough, Yasmin Le Bon..

I guess it depends on your budget.

There are a lot of deals for about £100 per night. Club Quarters St Pauls is excellent value for money.

You could try a travel Inn or Travel Lodge - these are amongst the cheapest and are quite central - but basic.

Best advice is to go to www.tripadvisor.co.uk and search on london - you will get travellers reviews to undersand what a place is really like - great for finding good qulaity bargains.

By the way if you go to tripadvisor and put in the hotel recommeded above, you may realise why someone gave this advice the thumbs down!!!!!

THE LOFT? Covent Gardens?

hey wot type of stuff is in the loft, what designers and what prices?

THE LOFT? Covent Gardens?
Lots of different designers - everything from Gucci, Prada and Louis Vuitton to Lulu Guiness, Paul Smith and Vivienne Westwood. Pricewise it varies by designer, but don't expect anything much less than half the new retail price (and potentially more than the retail price for vintage or sold-out and in-demand items). Everything's in very good condition and priced accordingly.

They have a website if you'd like to contact see more and contact staff about current stock: http://www.the-loft.co.uk/

I live in London and my mum is visiting for the weekend, where can i take her?

she has visited before lots of times, and seen a lot of the obvious places like the eye, covent garden etc. things like musicals and the theatre wont interest her but shes from a small town so fancy london things will make her happy! i wanted to take her for afternoon tea at the ritz but its all booked up. any ideas?

I live in London and my mum is visiting for the weekend, where can i take her?
There's always Fortnum %26amp; Mason, Claridges and the Savoy, all of which are fab. And better than Harrods which is just a bit too touristy!
Reply:Try browns night club. She would really like that.
Reply:Harrods, Madame Tussauds, if you can go outside London abit, take her to Kew Gardens or Windsor Castle. You need to be sure of what she likes. You could always wait til she comes and plan with her. most stays are best when unplanned. Good luck.
Reply:take her on some trips to museums, boat rides, dinners out, places like the london eye, hyde park, swimming
Reply:The Tate Modern has a few slides as part of its display (and allowing people to slide down them). The Natural History Museum is still displaying the Wildlife Photography Competition exhibition.
Reply:Some of the really nice restaurants in London which are booked up months in advance usually still have places for lunch time. Try one of the really nice ones such as Gordon Ramsey at Claridges, Angela Hartnett at the Connaught, the Ivy, or any of the other "unbookables". What about wondering around Greenwich. It's really lovely at the weekend with loads of market stalls, antiques and little cafes. There is always the park and foot tunnel there as well as a pier for a boat trip down to Westminster.

On Sunday going up to Portobello Road for a look at the antiques there is always good fun.

My mum is from a small town in Scotland and she actually really loves going to big shops like Harrods and even the Marks and Spencers on Oxford Street when she comes down.

Marylebone High Street is good for interesting shops to look at such as Kath Kidston and the White Company.

Chinatown is always worth a wonder round and pop in for dim sum for lunch or dinner - it's an experience in itself.

There are walking tours you could go on such as the Jack the Ripper tour in East London, might learn a bit more history about the city.
Reply:Art Galleries, Museum of the Moving Image (MOMI) a museum of film stuff on the south bank. "Posh" shopping in the boutiques and designer stores down Old Bond Street and Burlington Arcade. Christmas store at Harrods. Plenty of other posh hotels in London for afternoon tea.

Add some comments to your question to give us an idea what sort of things your mum likes.
Reply:If you want to have a lovely afternoon tea: try the Wolseley! It is located next to the Ritz and they have wonderful staff and of course lovely food! Do make a reservation but the chances for getting a table are better than at the Ritz! Also, I love taking my mum to Borough Market: very busy but great food (you get to try a lot of it, so this may even replace your afternoon tea, ha ha!)

Have some fun, got to Tate Modern and go off the slides: FUN!
Reply:Lots of good suggestions here. You could always try for tea at Browns Hotel, opposite the Ritz in Albemarle Street. I was there years ago, and it was very English and comforting.

When is your mum coming? I'm not sure when, but there will probably be a Christmas ice rink outside the Natural History Museum. There's a cafe there too, and small shops to buy Christmas puddings, jumpers, jewellery, etc. Cross the road to visit the V %26amp; A to see something you're interested in (check out the current exhibitions); then take a leisurely stroll up the road to Harrods. You could have a meal in the Green Man pub in the store - all wood panelling, and small! Just a short walk from there is Harvey Nichols, with its small food department and restaurants on the 5th floor. You can wander around and look at the pricey designer clothes, and lovely things for the home.

Take no 9 (I think) bus from there towards Piccadilly and hop off at the Royal Academy - check for exhibitions there, too. Cross the road and have a stroll around Fortnum and Mason, where you can treat her to wonderful chocolates and interesting foods in the grocery department. I think it's at 11 am when Mr Fortnum and Mr Mason are in evidence!

Someone else mentioned the Museum of London - a couple of hours there and a sit down in the Barbican is a good idea, as is, possibly, a London Walk. You could do a walk of City Ghosts, if she's interested; there are a lot to choose from.

http://www.walks.com/ (they last about two hours, and after that you could take her to a pub for a drink and meal)

Every year so far there has been a winter ice rink at Somerset House, Aldwych. That's the one I like best, with its wonderful surroundings and Christmas Tree. You could see an exhibition there also - check for current ones, and you are close to Covent Garden for shopping and eating.

Someone else mentioned St Martin-in-the-Field; it's close to the National and National Portrait Galleries, so you could have either tea or a meal there. Lunch stops being served around 2 pm; there's a nice shop, and often there are concerts in the church itself. I heard one by candlelight one evening.

Have a lovely time!

Edit: just seen you said at the weekend - try a London Walk!

Reply:If you can't get into the Ritz there is a similar posh tea section inside Harrods. Have you been to the V and A my Mum liked that.
Reply:How about Portobello Road market and then lunch somewhere in Notting Hill? The British Museum and the Museum of London are both good. Or Camden Market.

www.beerintheevening.com is a great site with reviews for pubs, just stay out of leicester square area for pubs as they are all cr+p. Angel has some nice pubs or you can shoot down to clapham common area for some cool pubs.

There are so many, one of my favorite places is just behind Waterloo/ Southark station there is a cool restaurant called TAS and a bar called Jacks bar next to it se1 8da ( isabella street) is the adress if you put it into streetmap.co.uk it is under the railway arches.

Does anyone have a recipe for spinach and chick pea soup?

Many years ago the Covent Garden Soup company used to sell a 'morocan chick pea and spinach' soup. Have been waiting for them to do it again but no joy yet. Does anyone know how to make it?

Does anyone have a recipe for spinach and chick pea soup?
Moroccan Spiced Chickpea Soup

Chickpeas seem to call out for Moroccan spices, so that's what they get here. I make this soup really chunky and hearty.

1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for garnish

1 large onion, medium diced

6 to 8 cloves garlic, pressed

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon ground cumin

1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper

1 heaping teaspoon sweet paprika

1 (14.5-ounce) can chopped tomatoes

3 (15-ounce) cans chickpeas, drained and rinsed well

1 quart vegetable broth or reduced-sodium chicken broth

1 teaspoon sugar

Kosher salt

Freshly ground black pepper

1 (5-ounce) package pre-washed baby spinach

Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add onion and garlic and saute until the onions begin to turn translucent; lower heat if browning starts to occur. Add spices and saute a minute or so. Add tomatoes, chickpeas, broth, and sugar. Season with a couple pinches of salt and 10 grinds fresh pepper. Stir well. Chickpeas should be just covered with liquid. If level is shy, add some water so the chickpeas are just covered.

Bring to a simmer, then lower heat to low and gently simmer for 45 minutes.

Remove soup from heat. Use a potato masher to mash up some of the chickpeas right in the pot. Stir in the spinach and let heat through until wilted, just a couple minutes.

Season again, to taste, with salt and pepper.

Serve soup, drizzled lightly with extra-virgin olive oil, if desired.
Reply:moroccan chick pea and spinach soup

2 tsp. olive oil

1 medium onion, chopped (about 1 cup)

1 clove garlic, minced (about 1 tsp.)

1/4 cup smooth natural peanut butter

The classic soup of Anglo-Indian cookery is as vibrant as ever - chicken, coconut, rice and lentils in a mildly spiced base of ginger, coriander, cumin and cayenne pepper.

How far does it take to get to St George Drive from Oxford Street by bus?

We will be visiting London during May29 - June 7. In our last trip our hitel was in Tottenham Court Road and the location was very convenient with good access to Oxford Street, Covent Garden, Picaddily Circus,... In this trip we have found a hotel in St George Drive . They say the nearest tube stations are Pimlico and Victoria.

I thought the place is a little bit remote? Am I mistaken?

How far does it take to get to St George Drive from Oxford Street by bus?
57 minutes with bus 24 then bus 73 (changing at Goodge Street).

32 minutes if you use the tube as well..

What are the best areas to live in Central London on a max900pw budget?

I'll be moving to London and wondering what are the best areas to look for a flat (or house).

Would like to be at reasonable distance from Hide Park / Belgravia (work), should be a lively area with plenty of restaurants, cafes, bars, etc, yet not completely run over by tourists (a quiet side street from main tourist areas is OK).

Some friends recommended me areas such as South Kensington, Picadilly, Covent Garden, Soho. Areas like Islington, Camden and Notting Hill seem cool but a bit out of the way (hate commuting), while Mayfair I've been told is too posh and 'boring' (true? don't want posh and boring). And what about Chelsea?

No need to tell me that all these areas are expensive and way over priced, I know. My budget is up to 900pound a week (unfurnished).

I guess I am asking for too much, but all suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

What are the best areas to live in Central London on a max900pw budget?
Hiya,

Yeah agree with Chelsea - but also consider the areas directly surrounding Regents Park. I live in St Johns wood and I believe its got everything you're looking for. NW8 is an upmarket area of London just enough out of the way not to be inhabited with tourists. - anywhere near the park is good so Park Road - Prince Albert Rd - even Primrose Hill (where many celebs like to move to. The housing is great - many spacious Georgian houses with high ceilings.

Its pretty cool up here - I will never leave anyway - my brother lives in Kensington and it has its plus points but i wouldnt swap for the world. Anyway - just thought i;d give you another option - as if its not confusing enough already! I ended up here by accident I was originally looking in Maida Vale - very happy too... seriously, consider it.
Reply:Hi

Chelsea is a good place to live, convenients, safe, lots of pubs/bars/cafes %26amp; restaurants, shops. You can get a bus from chelsea to hyde park corner in 15 minutes. The bus routes are 24 hour as well. A few draw backs are theres a lack of a 'community' feel, lots of foreigners, its very noisy as well as its a lively area with lots of police siren's going all the time, plus its really busy on a match day
Reply:St. John's Wood is a very nice area with restaurants and bars, and only about 15 minutes on the tube (Jubilee Line) from the centre of town. Yes London is expensive but 900PW is a large budget and you'll have no trouble finding somewhere for that amount.

What is the easiest and least expensive way to get internet connectivity in my flat?

I live in Covent Garden, London. Unfortunately (and suprisingly) I can not "borrow" anyone's wireless connection.

What is the easiest and least expensive way to get internet connectivity in my flat?
dial-up or broadband

running shoes

What are the best parts of London to live for young families?

I am close to relocating my family to london. I have a 5 yr old boy and 2yr old girl. My work is in Covent Garden area. What are the best places to live for a few years in 3 bedroom flat? I've heard Notting Hill and Kensington. Is that right?

What are the best parts of London to live for young families?
Well yes, if you can afford to live in Kensington then it would be great but very very expensive. You'll need at least a million for a semi-decent home there. You don't want a flat with a 2 year old as they will still be in a pushchair won't they? You don't want your poor wife dragging a pushchair down 3 flights of stairs every day! Notting Hill is also very affluent. What you want is good schools, walking distance to commons and parks, good public transport links and a friendly area. I live in West Norwood in South East London and it's mainly families here. My street is old victorian houses (still expensive for a 5 bed around £400,000), but you're near Streatham Common and local shops and great school. You need to do your research. Try www.upmystreet.com to get an idea of the schools in the areas you're looking in and www.findaproperty.com to check out prices in those areas. You need to time your commute to Covent Garden once you've chosen your area. Try an area with good rail links rather than on the tube as it is more likely to be child friendly the further outside of London that you get. Bromley is beautiful and has so much for kids there. The trains are great from South London and go very regularly into London Bridge and Victoria. From Victoria you could then just get the Circle / District line round to Embankment which is a few minutes walk to Covent Garden.
Reply:Try Finchley. It has a large choice of parks and is close to Hampstead Heath, good shops, schools and libraries and plenty of interesting family activities within easy reach, including a threatre with children's productions and workshops. It is on the Northern Line and is cheaper than some of the areas you have been looking at. It is also outside the London Congestion zone. http://www.tfl.gov.uk/roadusers/congesti...
Reply:Well, they are central and VERY expensive... but a nice area is Maida Wale or St Johns Wood. It is still easy to get to your work, but its a bit more family orientated.
Reply:anywhere outside london I'd advise!!!
Reply:Windsor its not in london bit 15 minites away its a very nice town

Is Andrew Norris a scam? Is he really a lawyer from Covent Garden London?

Supposely he's a lawyer from Betterton street in London. Is that true?

Is Andrew Norris a scam? Is he really a lawyer from Covent Garden London?
There is a lawyer called Andrew Norris. However, the real one does not practice in Betterton Street.

If you got an email from someone claiming to be him then it is a scam. Others have posted the same question here. Delete it and move on.
