Im thinking of asking this girl i like out. I was thinking of lunch in Central London, perhaps around covent garden (doesn't need to eb here hust some where nice and central). Im only 17 so wouldn't want to pay much more than £20 per person. Any ideas?
Nice place for lunch in London?
Make her lunch and take her to the park for a picnic thing. It's cheaper and it will mean more to her that you took the time to do it. Plus, you'll probably have a great time, too.
Reply:There is an Austrian cafe near the Smithfields meat market I found by accident, which is incredibly charming and not expensive, but have an early lunch or it will be full (it's quite small). It's called Kipferl, after the pastry. http://www.kipferl.co.uk/ is the page for it, with instructions how to get there:
kipferl is located at 70 long lane, london EC1A 9EJ,
between the Barbican Center and Smithfield Market.
The nearest tube station is Barbican.
Or there's the Hummus Brothers, who have several restaurants now. They serve mostly hummus with different food in the centre of a ring of hummus. It's extremely nice food and very cheap and I love it.
http://www.hbros.co.uk/ is their site and http://www.hbros.co.uk/findus/ is how to get there.
Both places will feed you very well for in the region of a tenner a head.
I hope this helps.
Reply:Try a Northern Indian ,Iranian or Lebanese restaurant.Your girl will be impressed and you will not burn a hole in your pocket.
Reply:Impress her with your knowledge of a cool new place to eat in Covent Garden called Wahaca. The food is excellent and very good value

Reply:It has been my experience that the best place to eat in England is at a Pub.
If you have nice weather and a Pub that has ouside seating take her there.
Reply:I'd take her to Borough market on a friday or saturday (check opening times online) and have fun with the free samples of delicious food and then buy some hot food from a stall and go sit in the sun with everyone else.

The Capitalization of Britain?
It is very, very disheartening to see the passing of both the Theatre Museum, Covent Garden and the Redgrave Theatre in (I think) Leatherhead.
In the 25 years that I`ve lived in this country I have witnessed the savage capitalization of its resources including, sadly, the arts. And it is with greatest and most profound sadness that I witness the termination of both the Theatre Museum, Covent Garden as well as the Sir Michael Redgrave Theate.
The Theatre Museum was, I believe, free or else there was a nominal charge.
Saddest of all this termination is indicative of a trend; and a trend derived I might add but not particularise from foreign interests. The V%26amp;A, for instance, of which the Theatre Museum is a part, has set levels of membership and only the gold members (who pay about £250 pa) get to go to the noshes and posh parties. Previously anyone who was a member got to participate in the fun stuff.
There are two ways of looking at things: with blinkers and without.
The Capitalization of Britain?
Sadder still is the Lowry Theatre in Salford that was built in a regeneration area with public money, which tries it's damndest to exclude local youth whilst lavishing freebies on the luvvies.
The blinkers are firmly on in Salford. Same day, different track....
Reply:If you want it....you pay for it. simple as that
Reply:Don't worry, we'll be economically bankrupt within a generation. Hold Tight.
Reply:And the question is what?
Reply:The problem with "art" in this country is that it's losing it's popularity through being utter tripe. Someone leaves a bed unmade, or pile sup rubbish, or flicks a light on and off and then claims it to be art and "representational".
Frankly the tosh people turn out these days is it any wonder people no longer give a damn about it? A messy collection of wire hangers bent into a shape that doesn't look like anything does NOT represent the shattered and sharded mind of the creator, it represents someone's dumb enough to hand this muppet a grant while he sits out back of TopShop banging all the discarded hangers together.
If you want something to save art in Britain, try reintroducing art to Britain first, cos there sure as hell ain't nothing to write home about here!
Reply:I agree, the elites are being even greedier than normal.
With the death of any form of social political system to counter the ravening trough feeders there will inevitably be an increase in the things you describe and much worse NHS etc etc etc.
It is a sad fact that the blinker trade has never had it so good....

Reply:lol I'm not agree with Sam because this is not romantic , but cheap
Reply:There are various resturants that do buffets. Mr Wu's is a chinese resturant that does some good cheap food, not much meat for around £5 per head plus drinks. There are branches dotted around the West End / Soho.
There are also plenty of vegetarian thai resturants that are even less than than that- the food is quite goood, but no alchoholic drinks.
Wetherspoon pubs offer a broad range of food at reasonable prices.
Many resturants offer an early evening deal, advertised as pre theatre - two courses for a fixed price.
At the top of Charring Cross Road by Tottenham Court Road tube station, there is a variety of cheap and cheerful resturants.
A bit more adventurous than Mac Donalds.
Have fun.

Does anyone know of a string quartet that would premier a new piece?
I have started composing a series of pieces for string quartet and would be looking for a group to maybe premier it? The first piece "Sunset at Covent Garden" can be heard at my website tomstaples.org
Does anyone know of a string quartet that would premier a new piece?
im in a quartet and i would love to
i can't seem to get onto your website though : (
edit- i got on it : )
i really like your music
Reply:maybe try the String Quartet Tribute Band. they do covers of popular bands: nirvana, guns n roses, etc...wonderful stuff
Reply:I think you are ill-advised posting this in Answers as it could be construed as soliciting for business - which isn't allowed. I quite liked 'Sunset at Covent Garden' abd would like to hear more of the quartet music when it's ready. I am in the music business and have a direct link to one of the leading quartets in the country. I will contact you through your website.

Going out in London on Friday pm?
Hi! what are the good places to go to on Friday pm for pubs, meals, night clubs? I took my date around Covent Garden last Saturday. Any other good places for an evening?
Thanks for your help!
Going out in London on Friday pm?
It's Friday night as a write this - I am spending it right here - however if I was out I would be avoiding Soho and the West End in general (i.e. the most central part of London) - I find you too frequently have to pay to get into bars, the restaurants may be good but may be tourist traps, and there are too many crowds and queues...
I highly recommend Angel for restaurants (there's thousands of them), pubs, and bars, especially if you want to visit a moderately classy locale - nice place for a date.
Also Old Street (this is one of the most popular locations for trendy youth - lots of bars - maybe a bit over-trendy but potentially fun), Brick Lane (closest tube Liverpool Street - more trendy bars, and lots of curry houses)
Camden Town (blighted by the presence of low lives, but friendly and good fun, with lots of good pubs, indie clubs, some places to eat)
Reply:cute avatar!
Reply:CHECK out the places around Soho!
you have chinatown and lots of other good places as well.
Reply:Ask a local for the best and closest Fish and Chips place.
Reply:Rules is a fantastic place to go to.

Question for people who live in the UK-London?
hey, do you know how much it costs for a wash and cut at the Bumble %26amp; Bumble's hair salon in covent garden? and also how much is it for drying?
Question for people who live in the UK-London?
Bumble and Bumble are pretty expensive, their product line starts at about £15 and being situated in London, I'm guessing around £30+
Reply:omg use google! its so obvious...you would find the answer there so much quicker!
Reply:I believe it is two pounds and thirty-one pence.

takeaways!!
The customers patiently queuing down the street for a takeaway at peak hours attest to the perennial popularity of this veggie hotspot. The space inside is scarcely less cramped. Heavy wooden tables line the whitewashed brick wall at the back – good for people-watching if you’re one of the many lone lunchers. Vegetarian staples are served in rustic bowls from a central counter manned by laid-back yet efficient staff. The Indian masala soup had us hooked with its hearty texture and punchy, addictive spicing. Mains range from that old favourite quiche to seasonal stews or daily changing options like pasticcio: a Greek pasta bake layered with flavoursome béchamel and tons of vegetables (spinach, button mushrooms, sweet cherry tomatoes, chunks of aubergine, courgette roundels and fresh parsley). Many praise the desserts, but our coconut flapjack was cloying, smelled horribly of oil, and had indiscernible coconut. Old-school rainbow hippie trousers can still be spotted at Food for Thought, but this being Covent Garden, you get all types: couples, middle-aged women, and shop workers grabbing lunch. An unpretentious, reliable stalwart.

On a date do you prefer interesting or intellectual ?
Iam thinking of places to take a girl on a date in london. I had thought that the Tate Modern would be really nice or coffee in Covent Garden. or Ice Skating at Clarence House. What would you lot recommend....?

all of it
Reply:take her for a coffee its cheaper. after youv'e bagged her then invest a bit more cash, maybe take her to the movies.

Reply:I would say coffee. Save the ice skating for a few dates later. Interesting is better for me. I would personally love to go ice skating, but for the first date, you should just go to lunch!!!

I want to visit london...
Reply:if you combine the two with some laughter you will have a hit.

Coffee is boring. Keep things interesting and fun so she'll want another date. After you go ice skating then maybe simmer down for some coffee and talk

Cheap place to stayt in central london?
I'm off to London on the 20th May for 2 nights to a theatre break in covent Garden, can any one suggest a good CHEAP place to stay located near by ?
Cheap place to stayt in central london?
Do you mean like a hostel?? When I was there I stayed in the hoilday house hotel (really a hostel):
47-48 Leinster Gardens, London (in Bayswater) W2 3AT.
I think they may have changed the name, but the street it is on has a few other hotels/hostels that are also cheap.
When I say cheap, I mean REALLY cheap. Like 9 pounds a night or 60-65 pounds a week. Is this too cheap for you??? It wasn't that bad, but i was roughing it. The other hotels on the street were more upmarket but not too expensive I think.
Reply:it not a close a syou may wish but i stayed in london for £70 a night double en suit go.http://www.swintonhotel.com/
